toby NASHVILLE, TN.....10/18/07...With Portable Sounds firmly established as TobyMac’s best-selling solo project yet (following the Gold-selling Welcome to Diverse City and Momentum), ForeFront Records has announced they have signed a new recording deal with the award-winning and highly respected artist to a Multi-Album recording contract. The announcement comes as TobyMac and the label celebrate his first American Music Award nomination for Favorite Inspirational Artist. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre L.A on Nov 18th (http://www.ama.abc.com).

"Toby is a special artist and one who is in the prime of his career, the evidence of that is all around us with growing record sales, concert attendance and acknowledgement from the industry,” remarks EMI CMG Label Group president Peter York. “We are thrilled to be continuing our relationship with him and look forward to partnering with Toby on many more career highlights."

Portable Sounds was TobyMac’s highest solo debut ever on the Billboard Top 200 chart (No. 10), and after hitting No. 1 on SoundScan Contemporary Christian Overall chart in its first week as well, the project is still solidly in the top 10 after 33 weeks of release. Along with this sales success, over 100 Christian radio stations played his smash hit singles “I’m For You” and “Made to Love”, and after 18 weeks on the charts, “I’m For You” is still reaching over 9.6 million people, continuing to prove that TobyMac is just now hitting his stride as a solo artist, and is not slowing down.

After countless sold out shows, TobyMac just embarked on his headline tour this fall with Barlow Girl and Thousand Foot Krutch, selling out in Columbus, OH and in Houston, where a month out, a second show has already been added to the 6500 tickets sold for the first show! TobyMac will follow this tour up with the 3rd Annual WinterWonderSlam, now a must-see show each December. In spring 2008 he will hit the road again to co-headline a tour with Jeremy Camp.

About renewing his deal with the Forefront and EMI CMG team, TobyMac stated, “Having signed my first recording contract with Forefront, I have had the privilege to see and experience the leadership and vision of Bill Hearn, Peter York and the rest of the team at EMICMG. There was never any doubt of where I wanted to sign my new record deal. I am looking forward to partnering with them as we continue to strive for excellence”.

In addition to extensive touring from September through December, Forefront will release the Portable Sounds Deluxe Edition nationwide on October 23rd. An exclusive bonus DVD will be on-packed to the Portable Sounds CD, and will feature all five Tobymac music videos (“Boomin’”, “Gone”, “Irene”, “Get This Party Started”, and “Extreme Days”), bonus behind the scenes footage from the making of “Boomin’”, band interviews, touring, etc.

Along with superior sales and massive radio airplay, TobyMac’s songs have been used in numerous TV shows and films, including film trailer for Disney's Underdog, in Disney's The Game Plan, Transporter 2 and Veronica Mars, as well as multiple songs in Lucas Arts' next game offering Thrillville: Off the Rails and Nexon Games' Audition.

This fall, TobyMac’s song “Boomin’” is being heard by sports fans across the country as the music video is shown every Saturday for 12 weeks during "College Football Saturday" games on FOX SPORTS CABLE. Pre-game, the video will be shown mixed with various game footage of the current week’s competing teams. In addition to support from FOX SPORTS, the NFL Network is using “The Slam” in their “Put up Your Dukes,” program, while “Ignition” will be used in ESPN NASCAR promos.

TobyMac released his solo debut (Momentum, 2001) followed by the critically acclaimed Welcome to Diverse City (2004), both of which received GRAMMY nominations, and most recently were awarded RIAA Gold Certification. As a solo artist, in addition to rave reviews and always ending up a favorite in magazine and internet Reader’s Choice polls each year, TobyMac has also won seven Dove Awards, and received nine GMA Music/Dove Award nominations.

About continuing to work with TobyMac, Eddie DeGarmo, president EMI CMG Publishing, commented, "I've worked with Toby many years now. He is among the very best I 've seen at building bridges to his audience. He is relevant in every way. We at EMI CMG Publishing are proud to represent and administer his songs."

TobyMac is a founding member of the GRAMMY Award winning and best-selling group (over 8 million albums sold) dc talk, and is the founder of Gotee Records (Relient K; GRITS) and co-founder of the E.R.A.C.E. Foundation (Eliminating Racism and Creating Equality).

Before his solo career began, TobyMac hit numerous career milestones with dc talk and their 2 million unit selling project Jesus Freak, including garnering one of the group’s four GRAMMY® Awards, entering higher on the Billboard Top 200 chart than any other Christian artist ever had (No. 16) in August 1995, selling over 97,000 units, and garnering a Dove Award for “Song of the Year” (“Jesus Freak”) - the first time a rock song had one in this category. Certified Gold within 30 days of release, the project sold over one million units before dc talk joined forces in the general market with Virgin Records, and in its first week of release charted on Billboard’s Top 5 along with The Beatles, Garth Brooks, Bruce Springsteen and Vince Gill. General market radio success for JESUS FREAK was also stellar, including the top 15 charting of “Just Between You and Me” at Top 40/Pop radio. The JESUS FREAK tour was also one of if not the most successful tour by a Christian artist in the mid-90s as well, with shows selling out across the U.S. including Houston, Dallas, Columbus, Minneapolis, Boston and more.
